March 30, 2026 – CBI –  Lakewood, CO –The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) assisted the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) in the apprehension of a suspect wanted for first-degree murder on March 29, 2026.

Jaime Gilbert Martinez (DOB 01/11/1993) was safely taken into custody for charges of Murder in the First Degree and Tampering with Evidence in connection with the homicide of his 31-year old brother, Elijah Martinez.

The charges stem from a reported incident on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at approximately 10:39 a.m., when the New Mexico State Police responded to a report of a deceased male—subsequently identified as Elijah Martinez—in Sapello, New Mexico. Evidence at the scene indicated the male was a victim of homicide.

During the investigation, authorities determined that the suspect, Jaime Martinez, had traveled to the Denver metropolitan area. At the request of the NMSP, CBI Special Agents located the subject at a residence in Lakewood, Colorado.

The CBI, in coordination with the Lakewood Police Department, Wheat Ridge Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, and West Metro SWAT, safely took the suspect into custody following a prolonged standoff. Additional support for the operation was provided by CBI personnel from the Special Investigations and Illicit Marijuana (SIIM) Team, Special Investigations and Organized Crime (SIOC) Team, and Major and General Crimes Units.

Jaime Martinez is being held in Colorado pending extradition to New Mexico. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
