Duane Gurule Announces Candidacy for Colorado State Senate District 35

Rocky Ford, CO — Duane Gurule, Mayor of Rocky Ford, nonprofit leader, and technology professional, today announced his candidacy for Colorado State Senate District 35, launching a campaign focused on delivering innovative, results-driven solutions for rural Colorado.

Growing up in Rocky Ford, Colorado, he understands firsthand the challenges facing rural communities, including rising costs of living, limited access to healthcare, water infrastructure concerns, and economic opportunity gaps.

“Rural Colorado deserves a stronger voice at the State Capitol,” said Gurule. “For too long, our communities have fallen behind. I’m running to bring a new generation of leadership…focused on real solutions that improve quality of life and create opportunity for the people who call this region home.”

Gurule currently serves as Mayor of Rocky Ford, where he has led efforts to strengthen local government transparency, support small business growth, and revitalize the community’s economic outlook. He is also the founder of a nonprofit organization focused on improving quality of life and economic vitality across Southeast Colorado through food access, youth programming, and small business development.

His campaign will focus on key issues impacting rural communities, including:

● Lowering the cost of living for rural families and small businesses

● Protecting water rights and investing in long-term infrastructure

● Expanding access to rural healthcare

● Strengthening public schools and workforce development

● Growing rural economies through innovation and job creation

Gurule emphasized that his campaign will center on practical, forward-thinking solutions and collaboration. “Leadership isn’t about fighting against progress, it’s about working to deliver results,” Gurule said. “We need representation that understands our communities and is willing to do the work to move rural Colorado forward.”

If elected, Gurule would bring representation back to Otero County in the State Senate for the first time in more than three decades.
