Christopher Chavez, 33 of La Junta, Colorado unexpectedly passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Manzanola, Colorado. He was born November 14, 1992 in La Junta to Michael Lopez & Rita Chavez.

Chris was a man whose life was rooted in love, loyalty, and strength. He grew up in La Junta and was later raised in Pueblo, carrying with him the values of family, resilience, and heart wherever he went.

Above all, Chris was a loving father to his son Dakota and daughter Emilia, His children were his world.

Chris was also a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews, who meant so much to him. He cherished his time with them, bringing laughter, guidance, and warmth into their lives. His presence was one of comfort, fun, and genuine care.

Chris had a personality that left a lasting impression. He was a jokester who could make anyone laugh, bringing light into even the hardest moments. He had a kind soul and a giving heart—someone who would give his last to help anyone in need. Those who knew him understood that behind his hard-headed nature was a soft spot filled with compassion and love.

If you knew Chris, you knew he loved spending his time drinking, listening to music, and reminiscing on memories. He was a proud Raiders fan and enjoyed playing basketball and football and watching scary movies. He also had a deep love for Mexican food and appreciated the simple things in life.

He loved helping people and was known as a genuinely good person.

Though he wasn’t perfect, he was real. He lived life fully, loved deeply, and left behind memories that will never fade.

Chris will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, his strength, and most of all, the love he gave so freely to his family and friends.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Chris is survived by his mother, Rita Chavez; children, Emilia Chavez & Dakota Hand; siblings, Raquel (Kraig) Romero, Andrew Chavez, Aaron Chavez, Anthony Chavez, & Joseph Nichols; grandmother, Priscilla Chavez; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends also survive. He is preceded in death by his father, Michael J. Lopez; grandfathers, Albert Lopez, Eugene Chavez, Herman Sandoval; grandmother, Fina Sandoval.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta with Father Dennis Mary officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in La Junta.
