Two Killed, Child Injured in Highway 160 Rollover Crash Near Bayfield

Double Fatal Crash On Highway 160 Near Bayfield 

(COLORADO) – On May 2, 2026, at about 12:35 p.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to the area of Highway 160 near milepost 104 (just east of Bayfield, Colorado) for a reported single vehicle rollover crash.

When troopers arrived on the scene, they observed a single vehicle, a blue Chevrolet S10, that had been traveling eastbound on Highway 160, which had rolled off the south shoulder of the roadway and came to rest on its roof after rolling an unknown number of times. The vehicle was severely damaged in the crash. It is believed that the vehicle crashed on May 1, 2026, at around 6:00 a.m., and was not visible from the roadway.

Three occupants were involved in the crash. The driver, a 25-year-old male identified as Griffin, Devante, out of Farmington, New Mexico, and the passenger, a 24-year-old female identified as Tarango, Klariza, out of Farmington, New Mexico, were both pronounced deceased at the scene. The third occupant, a 5-year-old female, was taken to an area hospital for her injuries as a result of the crash and has since been released. 

At this time, impairment and excessive speed are not being investigated as factors leading to this crash. No charges are expected to be filed in this case.

The Colorado State Patrol is the lead investigating agency for this crash.
