(COMMERCE CITY, COLO) - This is an update to the multi-vehicle crash that occurred on June 8, 2026, at approximately 4:23 a.m.

This crash has been classified as two separate crashes.

The primary crash
Preliminary reports indicate a 2015 gray Subaru was traveling eastbound in the middle lane when it approached a semi-trailer ahead of it, prompting the driver to brake suddenly. A 2020 Volvo semi hauling a trailer was following behind the Subaru.

As the Subaru stopped to avoid the semi in front, the driver overcorrected to the left, striking the Volvo semi in the middle lane. The Subaru then traveled into the center median and collided head-on with a concrete barrier. After initial impact, the vehicle spun out and collided again with the Volvo semi traveling behind it. The Subaru came to rest in the middle lane, facing westbound.

Following the crash, additional vehicles sideswiped the Subaru.

The 31-year-old male driver of the Subaru exited the vehicle and left the roadway on foot. He was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

The secondary crash details
After the initial crash, a secondary one occurred. The investigation indicates the 2015 gray Subaru that was left in the middle lane of I-76 facing westbound had no visible lights. A 2012 black Hyundai Elantra was eastbound in the middle lane and collided its front end into the unoccupied gray Subaru.

The driver of a Hyundai, a 66-year-old female, was transported to a local area hospital and is in critical condition.

The driver of the Subaru, Cristian Rayas Coronado, was cited with Careless Driving Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

Eastbound I-76 was reopened at approximately 7:29 a.m.
