DFPC Helicopter Returns to Service Following Minor Electrical Repair

Canon City, CO - The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) announced today that its Bell 205 helicopter, operating as N3804C, has safely returned to full operational service following a quick mechanical resolution.

A maintenance assessment determined that the small cockpit fire experienced during operations on the Hidden Creek Fire on June 16 was caused by a faulty battery relay. A new relay was promptly installed on-site, and the aircraft was successfully cleared and flown back to its home base in Canon City the following day.

As a precautionary measure, and because the issue was isolated to a single mechanical component failure, maintenance teams proactively inspected the battery relay on the agency's other Bell 205 helicopter to ensure fleet-wide safety.

As of today, June 18, 2026, helicopter N3804C has been fully returned to active service and is currently assigned to the KO Fire burning in Fremont County.
