Obituary

Ted DeHerrera, of Aurora, Colorado, and formerly of Antonito, Colorado, entered into rest peacefully on July 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in his home. He was born to Orlando and Ida DeHerrera on June 8, 1949, in La Isla, Colorado. Ted was 77 years old.

Ted is survived by his beloved wife, Janice DeHerrera of Aurora, Colorado; his children, Anna (Ole Thompson) DeHerrera of Seattle, Washington, Jose DeHerrera of Grand Junction, Colorado, Felicia (Zachery) Montrose of Yorkville, Illinois, Claudine (Brian) DeHerrera-Graves of Tres Piedras, New Mexico, Zachary DeHerrera of Aurora, Colorado, Matthew (Toko Morioka) DeHerrera of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Demetrio DeHerrera of Aurora, Colorado; his grandchildren, Elka (Dalton Romero) Graves, Sierra Montrose, Nieva Montrose, Landon Graves, Garrett Graves; and his great-grandchild, Lainey Romero.

Ted worked as a telephone service man for many years until his retirement. He loved the San Luis Valley, especially his land there, and was also a farmer, rancher, and avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping, and especially hunting. Ted was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an echo of his father and always wanted to be known as a family man, because his family meant everything to him. Ted had many talents, including a remarkable sense of direction. He loved to read and was an eternal learner, always seeking knowledge and sharing it with others. He was more spiritual than religious with his open mind. Ted was loved by many and was always there for anyone in need. Though he was a quiet man, he had a big presence and leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, wisdom, and devotion to family. A 9:00 A.M. visitation will be held August 3, 2026. A 10:00 A.M Rosary followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos, Colorado. Father Sergio will be officiating. A Committal Service will be held at the Ortiz Cemetery in Ortiz, Colorado and everyone is invited and encouraged to share in a reception back at the Parish Hall.

Johnson-Romero Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
